Insights from Two Research Associates in the Field of Quality Assurance, Disease Management and Food Safety.

The HMGU Career Center invites you to the Online Career Talk “Working in Federal Institutes and Related Committees. Insights from Two Research Associates in the Field of Quality Assurance, Disease Management and Food Safety” by Dr. Liat Fishman and Dr. Ulrike Pabel.

Dr. Liat Fishman has a background in medical science and ventured into a career in public health, where today, she works as a research associate in the field of quality assurance and disease management programmes for the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA, Gemeinsamer Bundesausschuss) in Berlin. The G-BA has responsibilities in the areas of pharmaceuticals, medical examinations and quality standards in hospitals, as well as defining which healthcare services are provided by public health insurance.

Dr. Ulrike Pabel holds a PhD in biology from the German Institute for Health Nutrition (Rehbrücke) and is currently employed by the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR, Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung) in Berlin. Dr. Pabel works as a research associate in the area of food safety, where the BfR provides scientific advice to the federal government.

The goal of this talk is to give participants insights into how a PhD in life sciences can lead to a career as a research associate at institutes operating on a federal level, the responsibilities these professional roles bring with them and the respective working culture.
